Enrichment

Enrichment

In our vision at Barlborough Primary School, we prioritise offering a comprehensive, stimulating curriculum that ignites curiosity and equips our students for success in contemporary society. We are dedicated to continually enhancing our teaching methods and providing enriching experiences to create an inspiring educational journey for every child. Our skills-based thematic curriculum ensures comprehensive coverage of the national curriculum programs of study while offering a plethora of enrichment and extracurricular activities. We foster interdisciplinary connections and integrate enterprise projects, providing ample opportunities for students to apply key literacy and numeracy skills in real-world contexts.School Trips:To enrich the educational experience, we organise trips to various places of interest for each class at least once a year. These outings often align with the topics studied during the term and encompass visits to museums, sculpture parks, places of worship, and educational attractions such as The Deep or The Butterfly House. Prior to each trip, thorough risk assessments are conducted, and qualified first-aid trained staff accompany students to ensure their safety.Residential:Some of our Key Stage 2 classes embark on memorable residential trips. These are often to Dearne Valley. This immersive experience includes a range of exhilarating activities such as abseiling, archery, assault courses, and zip wires, fostering camaraderie and providing lasting memories. Year 6 also have a unique residential trip further afield. They have been to Spain and London in previous years.Performances:Throughout the year, we showcase our students' talents through dramatic performances. From a festive Christmas play involving KS1 and EYFS classes, spring performances by Year 3 and 4, to a grand end-of-year production led by year 6, these performances celebrate creativity and teamwork, captivating audiences with their brilliance. Enterprise:Emphasising real-life application of learning, each class participates in an annual enterprise event during our 'Enterprising Christmas Stalls' challenge. Students collaborate with teachers to plan and execute profit-making ventures, gaining valuable practical experience in planning and budgeting. Year 6 also take part in the 'fiver challenge' at the end of the school year. Clubs:To keep students active and engaged, we offer a range of extracurricular clubs during lunchtimes and after-school. Visitors:We regularly welcome guests, including community members, professionals, and parents, who share their expertise and enrich our students' learning experiences. From local authorities to small business owners, these visits provide valuable insights and broaden students' horizons.Outdoor Learning:Recognising the benefits of outdoor education, we provide opportunities for students to learn in natural settings, enhancing their understanding through hands-on experiences. This is often in our school garden or by visiting the local fields. Cycling and Swimming:Our year 6 students participate in a comprehensive Bikeability scheme annually to develop safe cycling skills for navigating local streets. Additionally, swimming lessons ensure students in Key Stage 2 acquire vital water safety skills.
