RSE
STATEMENT OF INTENT
At Barlborough Primary School, fostering positive relationships is at the core of our ethos, contributing to our achievement as a joyful, compassionate, and secure school environment.
Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) encompasses lifelong learning about various aspects, including relationships, emotions, self-care, diverse family structures, sexuality, and sexual health. Our goal is to equip our students with the necessary knowledge, skills, and positive beliefs to cultivate healthy relationships and attitudes. RSE significantly contributes to the personal, social, moral, and spiritual growth of our young learners
PROGRESSION GRID
Through extensive consultation with Governors, parents, carers, and students, we've tailored our RSE curriculum to meet the specific needs of our students, ensuring it is age-appropriate and engaging. Aligned with statutory requirements, our curriculum covers essential topics such as healthy relationships, sex education, and both physical and mental health, empowering our pupils to make well-informed decisions.
We've selected PSHE Matters, the Derbyshire County Council's written scheme for schools as it aligns closely with our school ethos.
Finally, we engaged in a Parent Consultation to address any concerns and ensure alignment with their perspectives. We also have a selection of books located in the school office to support parents’ involvement with discussing topics related to RSE at home with their children. Please come and help yourself to these.
